The Christiania Straight model

Christiania Straight Light is one of our most popular models. Nimble, light and a pleasure to ride. Designed specifically for the transport of up to four children. The Prairie Panorama rain hood is extremely versatile.

It is common for children to move into our cargo bikes. It is not only about transporting children safely to the kindergarten, the playground or on other trips. It is also about giving children an extra space for more intimacy and enjoyment. It is still one of the most compact and yet spacious cargo bikes on the market.

The Christiania Straight rolls so smoothly and swiftly, it is just a pleasure to ride.

Fitted generally with seven speed and coaster brake (three and eight speed are also available), and with a tight turning circle, it is surprising manoeuvrable in most urban settings.

There is a range of box colours and canopy shapes and colours; see details below. Two choices of seats: a wooden bench, with optional pillow, or a soft seat; both are for two children and come standard with a lap-belt. For children younger than two, an additional three-point harness can be fitted. Climbing on board is aided by an aluminium step.

The turning radius is only 480 cm making it a surprisingly manoeuvrable cargo bike in most urban settings. The total width of 87cm has been designed to make it possible to easily enter normal sized backyard doors in Copenhagen.

Safe interior, designed for children

The selected materials are warm and soft. The interior of the box has no sharp edges to avoid scratching or fingers getting caught. All materials are of excellent quality and from natural and environmentally friendly resources.The 9mm plywood panels are riveted to heavy duty steel profiles and tightly bolted to a light aluminium front frame. This construction seals the children’s room from rain and wind. At the same time, it is a strong construction, which can withstand impacts and the Scandinavian weather conditions for years too.

Made, designed and assembled in Denmark

All our models and main parts are based on our own drawings such as the front hub, frames, boxes and all steel components. Most of the parts are made in Denmark such as steel frames, the steering, the handlebar, wheels and not least our handmade boxes. All models are prepared and shipped from Denmark and safety checked by your local mechanic.

Manufacturer

CHRISTIANIA BIKES

Introduced in 1978, it has revolutionised family transport in Copenhagen (a quarter of families with two or more children own a tricycle), and it is now exported worldwide. It has since outgrown it’s original workshop in Christiania and moved to a beautiful island between Denmark and Sweden where the production takes place to this date.

The company is owned by the founders, Lars Engstrøm and Annie Lerche. Currently, the production area expands more than 3000m2, and more than 26 employees are working at Christiania Bikes including carpenters, black smiths, engineers and bicycle mechanics.

Green production

The production facility consists of modern machineries and facilities as well as a developed IT-infrastructure. Not only are products from Christiania Bikes environmentally friendly, the mindset of the production is also highly focused on being that. For example this mindset includes environmentally friendly heating, electricity and sorting of waste.

Christiania Bikes has built a unique network with long term relationship all over the world with selected retailers and distributors that take a great interest in improving the business in various ways.
